about

When I was little I was on a trip with my parents. We traveled by car, and I remember I heard the ‘Song of the Indian Guest’ from the Russian opera called ‘Sadko’ playing on the radio. I absolutely fell in love with it. And many years later I realized why this particular song amazed me to no end.
It seems to me that it reflects one of the peculiarities of Russian mentality: to travel somewhere far away to the East with the desire to learn about other cultures and their music. It is pretty symbolic that ‘Song of India’ became the opening composition on this album, because it is kind of a trip to the musical unknown...

Together with Taras we have spent hours on arrangements, and only a year later we’ve come up with this ostinato four stroke groove that helped put together the intro, the melody that does not start with the first beat of the measure, and the solo. I am very pleased that the arrangement we’ve made was adequate to the brilliant music of Rimsky-Korsakov.

– Kirill Yakovlev.
